Member Interview & Giveaway: Baby Tweeds

VKC: Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.
Christine:  I live in Seattle Washington in a Craftsman Bungalow built in 1906 with my husband and 2 ½ year old daughter. I have a Bachelor’s Degree General Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I have spent most of my professional life working in high tech in the area of Human Resources. When I became pregnant with my daughter I left my job and focused on various other hobbies and oversaw a major remodel to our house.

Starting my shop came about slowly as I decided that I wanted to start some type of business but also wanted the flexibility to spend time with my daughter. The original idea for my shop was to have handmade items (by me) with a few vintage items. However, after I opened my shop in March of 2011, I realized that I really loved vintage children’s clothing and that is what I wanted to focus on in my shop.

VKC:  Why are you drawn to vintage?
Christine:  Items made 60+ years ago have such a uniqueness and were generally very well made (often by hand). Most of the items that I find are truly rare and one of a kind which I absolutely love.

VKC:  Where do you find your treasures?
Christine:  Thrift stores, antique stores, estate sales.

VKC:  What is your process when creating/working?
Christine:  I try to find items from various eras and also try to have a balance between girls and boys clothing which can be tough as boys clothes in really good condition are hard to find. I try to list 6-9 items a week but this does not always work depending on my schedule. I also try to strike a balance between dresses, outerwear, bonnets/hats, shoes, etc. So that customers have a variety of things browse through.

VKC:  How do you promote your business?
Christine:  Through the various Etsy teams that I am on, my Facebook page, Twitter and Tumblr.

VKC:  What do you do when you are not creating/working?
Christine:  Spending time with my daughter, exercising, cooking, cleaning, yardwork, etc.

VKC:  What is your favorite item in your shop or that you have sold, and why?
Christine:  It is a beautiful dress from the Edwardian Era. I love the Edwardian Era and this dress was so beautiful, unique and elegant. I will really miss it:

VKC:  How do you juggle your business and your personal life/motherhood?
Christine:  It is a very delicate balance that does not always work. However, I have a wonderful husband who is happy to take over household tasks if I can’t get everything done.

VKC:  What giveaway or discount would you like to offer our readers?
Christine:  I would like to give away an adorable hand knit blossom pink dress from the 1980s. Dress size is 0-3 months.
*shipping will be paid for by the seller and she will ship world wide!

  1. Your shop is so full of special clothing. I am constantly amazed (and jealous) by the quality of the items you find! The little jackets and matching hats remind me of Jane and Michael from Mary Poppins.
