Member Interview & Giveaway: fuzzymama

VKC: Tell us a bit about yourself, Beth, and your shop, fuzzymama.
Beth: I am a stay at home mom to two boys--Harrison -4 and Truman-2 (yes, the SAME names as fellow VKC member LishyLoo) They are the light of my life and I treasure every moment with them. I got started on etsy several years ago as a way to make extra cash and be home with Harrison. I was an interior designer b4 I had kids, working primarily for non profits trying to uplift their spaces with zero budgets. I think I have always had an appreciation for older things, reusing, and repurposing. My house is filled with antiques, hand me downs, and dumpster finds. Even though my shop is primarily kids items, I do enjoy finding vintage housewares and women's clothes and accessories as well.

 

VKC: Why are you drawn to vintage?
Beth: I love things with a history. I so enjoy learning about some of my finds--the designers, or periods they came from, etc. You also can not beat the quality of vintage items.

VKC: Where do you find your treasures?
Beth: I scour thrift stores mostly---but do the occasional estate sale and garage sale. Its hard toting around my boys---I do get Saturday mostly to myself to thrift like mad. My supportive husband usually takes the boys hiking or biking.

VKC: What is your process when working?
Beth: I usually try to photograph many items in one afternoon while Tru naps. Most of the editing and listing happens at night, after the boys are in bed or very early in the am when just Tru and I are up. (I've got one early riser and one sleeper!)

VKC: How do you promote your business?
Beth: I started sponsoring a few blogs I enjoy---and this has really helped get my name out and increased traffic the the shop. I have also stepped up my tweeting and just started a Facebook page for the shop. I am LOVING finding an online community of like-minded folks. One of the hardest things about being a mom is the isolation--especially midwest winters. Its nice to get a tweet or a message thru Facebook on those days when you are stuck at home! The VKC group rocks!!

VKC: What do you do when you are not working?
Beth: I try to spend time with my boys---creating and running around. I love time with my girlfriends, too. We try to meet up once a month for a ladies night out. Oh--and spending time with my husband!! : )
 
VKC: What is your favorite item in your shop or that you have sold and why?
Beth: I sold a Marimekko dress that was to die for---it was too small for me-bummer. Currently I love my Heller dishes---might have to pull them for summer use!!
 

VKC: How do you juggle your business and motherhood?
Beth: Its hard---some days I find that I spend way to much time on the computer. I try to plan things for the boys that are out of the house so there is no temptation. I also have days where I just put my mac away. Out of sight, out of mind!!
