VKC: Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.
Cari: My name is Cari and my shop, The Vintage Nursery, has been officially open since January of this year. My daughter, husband and I live in Vancouver, BC (Canada) but I am from Washington state.
VKC: Why are you drawn to vintage?
Cari: I have been facinated by vintage and antiques since... as long as I can remember. I remember going into antique stores as a kid and being AMAZED by everything. Besides being interested in the history of each item, I was enthralled with the idea of something old becoming more valuable over time.
As far as vintage clothing goes, I've been thrifting since high school, in the days when thrift stores were actually cheap and you could really score some amazing finds! My love for baby vintage clothing is part nostalgia, part love of tiny things, part desire to find unique and well-made items for my little gal. I have found so many cute things that I am happy to share them with the rest of the world of vintage-lovers.
VKC: Where do you find your treasures?
Cari: I live near a thrift store, so it is very easy to go for a walk and "accidently" end up there. I also get a few items from a fellow vintage-loving friend.

VKC: What is your process when creating/working?
Cari: It is much easier for me to shop than to list items, so I have a growing pile of clothes sitting in a box, waiting for their turn in the shop. When I get a chance, usually at naptime, I take photos. Later I'll edit the photos. If I have time I'll list the item on Etsy. This usually takes a day or two. I wish that I could dedicate more time to my shop, but for now it has to be more of a hobby for me.
VKC: How do you promote your business?
Cari: I have sponsored a couple of blogs but I am not good at self-promotion. I need to get over that. I use Twitter and Facebook now to give updates on sales and new listings. I've also just had some business cards and stickers made! Local promotion is what I really need to work on!

VKC: What do you do when you are not creating/working?
Cari: I'm playing with my daughter! Or feeding her, or trying to get her to sleep. That pretty much sums up my day. Before my daughter was born I was working as an English teacher to new immigrants and refugees and currently I am just working twice a week and a bit from home.

I REALLY love travelling and have lived in four different countries. If we didn't have to worry about jobs and money, my husband and I would love to take our girl to explore the world.
VKC: What is your favorite item in your shop or that you have sold and why?
Cari: Well, I have a couple of dresses that I haven't listed yet that I am having a hard time letting go of. But I will, because they are much too large for my daughter and I'm sure I'll find plenty of cute things for her by the time she is that size. I am already obsessed with finding her the Perfect First Day of School Dress, and she is only one year old!

But with items I have already sold... I really loved a gingham dress that sold in February, and I am sentimental about the first item I ever listed, a blue bunny suit! Oh, and my lederhosen set!
Cari: I would like to give away the winner's choice of one article of clothing from my shop (including shipping).
Thanks so much, Cari!
